JAZZ
Style Definition
Our jazz program focuses primarily on modern jazz dance, but also teaches foundational jazz movement that came from African American vernacular styles of dancing that emerged with jazz music. Today, this dance discipline is practiced in many different styles, drawing on the techniques of ballet and modern, and is oftentimes danced to popular music. Movements focus on controlled turns, leaps, kicks, extensions, and body isolations integrated into choreography that demands energy and personality. Conditioning, progressions, center-work, across the floor, combinations, and freestyle are incorporated into our jazz classes.
